However, I think Spock played a larger role in the book than just a cameo appearance. For me, he was there in Valeris' mind throughout the book and figured prominently in that way. Also, I found some of the sentence structure made reading a little more difficult - I had to read a few sentences a couple of times to figure out the flow of the sentence - minor annoyance, but there.
